Balaji Shipping Lines FZCO to launch New AGS Service to Umm Qasr, Iraq from Jan 26th 2012
We are extremely pleased to announce the launch of BSL's upgraded AGS service to Umm Qasr-Iraq.
Iraq's political scenario continues to be challenging, but trade and commerce is expected to boom from 2012 onwards. There was a strong need expressed by the trade to have a "trusted and reliable" carrier who is willing to partner in the transport chain and provide two-way transparent information in difficult markets. Its not a surprise, that BSL was the first name that came to mind. We at the Transworld Group & BSL have always been convinced about the important role of Jebel Ali in the Middle East Logistics scenario. Our network of in-house and strong local offices/partners ensures that customers always receive top-class service in the toughest of markets.
The launch of this new and upgraded AGS service from Jebel Ali to Umm Qasr shall provide a reliable and dedicated highway for our customers. The service also includes calls from Mundra and Dammam thus providing customers with multiple export/import points.
Jebel Ali Gateway:
DP World - Jebel Ali is ideally positioned to be the critical hub for traffic into Umm Qasr - Iraq. With continuously upgraded facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure, Jebel - Ali is geographically perfect for smooth flow of both transhipment and logistics / 3 PL operations. With a growing economy and GDP projected to be above 9% in 2012, Iraq is expected to source their requirements from the neighbouring countries in the Indian Sub-Cont, Colombo, Karachi and Saudi Arabia. In addition, a large share of the Far-east traffic is expected to seek routing via Jebel Ali.
Mundra Gateway:
The Port of Mundra is located in the Kutch district of the state of Gujarat and lies on the north shores of the Gulf of Kutch. It is one of the closest ports to the huge hinterland of northern and central India which comprises Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, accounting for about 2/3 of India's cargo. The port has excellent in-land connectivity thru rail track, road network, airport and cross country pipelines. The AGS service would be the first direct call between Mundra, Dammam & Iraq enabling the Indian exporters to have a regular highway for their products overseas.
Dammam Gateway:
King Abdul Aziz Port, Dammam, is the principal port of Saudi Arabia in the Gulf and is located approximately mid-way along the Eastern Coast. King Abdul Aziz Port is the main gateway through which cargoes from all over the world enter the Eastern and Central Provinces of the Kingdom. It is strategically placed to service the requirements of the oil industry, the continuous development of Riyadh, the capital, and the major provincial cities in the Eastern and Central Provinces. The AGS service would be the first direct call between Dammam port and Iraq enabling the Saudi Arabian exporters to have a regular highway for promoting their products into Iraq.
Apart from the carriage of dry cargo, BSL now provides customers with a dedicated reefer cargo highway as well.
This dedicated reefer high-way is another first from BSL !!
BSL will constantly serve the ever-growing needs of our customers and promises to continue with upgrades in line with the trade requirements. We look forward to your support and patronage, without which our presence in this region for over 25 years would not have been possible.

5 newcomers, 5 drop out of Top 50
Paris:
Despite the worst recession, most of the top container shipping lines maintained their position in the Top 50, according to Alphaliner.
There have been no major bankruptcies. Consolidation activity has also been limited, with only two mergers taking place in the last 24 months - both relatively small acquisitions of feeder operators, it reported.
There were five new entries into the Alphaliner Top 50 in the last 24 months, the biggest being China's state-owned Hainan PO Shipping and Grand China Shipping, with backing from Hainan provincial interests.
Hainan PO has been aggressive since it started operations in January 2009, building a fleet of 16 containerships, totalling 30,000 TEUs on routes in China, South-East Asia, Australia and the US.
Five carriers dropped out of the Top 50 league. Among them were Maruba-CLAN, United Feeder Services, Delphis, Heung-A and Fesco. But they are still operating.
Of the 13 carriers that have quit the liner trades since 2008, only one was from the Top 50: Shandong Yantai International Marine Shipping (SYMS) was ranked 44th before it ceased trading in August 2008. A part of SYMS’ fleet was taken over by Grand China Shipping.
Some of the smaller operators in the Top 50 list have been less affected by the global downturn with a few reporting profits in 2009.
Aarhus-based Unifeeder leads this group with an operating profit of 42.7 million euros ($ 55.8 million) in 2009.

Shreyas Relay Systems to deploy 100 GPS-fitted Trailers to offer multi-modal transportation
Kochi, March 28:
Shreyas Relay Systems Ltd, part of Transworld Group of Companies, is set to deploy 100 GPS-fitted trailers in the market to offer multi-modal transportation and has signed an MoU with Tata Motors to purchase 50 trucks. It has already deployed 10 trucks in Gujarat and another 10 will be deployed in Tamil Nadu and Kochi by the first quarter of next fiscal, Mr. S. Varadarajan, Chief Executive Officer, SRS, said.
Coastal shipping
The company, which is into coastal shipping since 2002, also plans to increase its fleet strength. “We are in discussions with various international companies and studying the market price for ships. SRS has been servicing various sectors across the country and had achieved a throughput of carrying more than two lakhcoastal containers and close to 6 million tonnes of cargo,” he said.
In India, coastal transportation is at a very nascent stage even though the country has 7,000 km of coast line. Today, 65 per cent of the cargo is moved by road, 28 per cent rail and only 7 per cent by sea.Given the situation, SRS wants to position itself as a lead logistics player in the country, he said.

Studying market price:
Mr. S. Varadarajan, CEO, (right),
Shreyas Relay Systems Ltd, and Mr. C. M. Muraleedharan,
Deputy General Manager, at a press conference in Kochi on Monday. - K. K. Mustafah
The company, with Rs120-crore turnover, is also exploring the possibility of setting up a container freight station in Kochi and other parts of the country.
SRS is also looking for a strategic tie-up with Adani Group for transporting Maruti cars, as Adani has bagged the contract for moving cars from Mundra Port, he said.
On Cabotage Law relaxation, Mr Varadarajan said there was no justification in giving a relaxation. He said his company's view is that Indian ship operators have enough capability to meet the demand. Referring to Kerala, he said the State offers tremendous potential with its vast network of inland water transportation.
It is time to look at alternative modes of transportation considering the environmentally friendly mode of coastal shipping. The company is focussing more on Kerala as 50 per cent of its cargo is from the State, he said.
